Meet Pete

Pete Rawlings, B.A., M.Sc.

I have been a professional counsellor/therapist since completing my initial training in Lancaster in 1985. In 1992/3 I gained an M.Sc. in Counselling, Supervision & Training from the University of Bristol. My dissertation for the M.Sc. was the first ever in the UK on “Spirituality & Counselling”.

In 1999 I became a Certified Trainer for the EQ Map (Emotional Intelligence Profiling, Q-Metrics, USA) and in 2004 I became a Graduate of the evidence-based Authentic Happiness Coaching Programme (USA), run by Professor Martin Seligman - the foundation course in Positive Psychology at the time.

Therapy experience includes:

  • Manager - Off The Record, youth counselling service - Swindon 1986-7;
  • Principal Counsellor, young people with drug or substance misuse, Taunton, 1987-93;
  • Individual therapy for clients, private practice, 1993-Present;
  • Professional Counselling Supervisor, 1986-Present;
  • University Counsellor (Royal Holloway College) 1995;
  • Practice Counsellor in two GP surgeries in Somerset (Somerton & East Reach, Taunton) 1995-2002.
From 2012-2016 I was a Senior Psychological Therapist within the NHS (Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Talking Therapies Service).

From 1993 to 2004 I was also a “Core Tutor” (Senior Lecturer) for the Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling, University of Bristol (a nationally accredited training course for counsellors).

In 1996 I formed the human relations consultancy 
Procounsel Associates Ltd. As Director and Principal Consultant I established the first independent employee counselling service for Aardman Animations (1997-1999) and provided a range of consultancy services and trainings in the broad human relations field to a diversity of businesses.

In 2019 I established WiseNature Ltd based in mid-west Wales with the focus on integrating eco-therapy theory and practice, Daoism and nature-based psycho-spiritual approaches into personal change modalities.

I am a Senior Accredited Member of the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS - no: NCS14-00671); formerly (for 30+ years) a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and previously of the British Association for the Person-Centred Approach (BAPCA).
